How does Botox® work?

Botox® is an FDA-approved anti-aging injectable designed to soften lines and wrinkles caused by frequent muscle movements. The active ingredient in Botox is a neuromodulator that halts muscle motions by interrupting the signals from nerves to muscles. Treatments of Botox in Cedar Park are injected in tiny quantities into specific muscle strands, for a noticeable smoothing effect–you can look years younger, refreshed, and rejuvenated, with no surgery required.

Men or women who would like to smooth or prevent wrinkles and achieve a rejuvenated appearance. Ideal candidates for Botox in Round Rock & Cedar Park should meet the following requirements:

  • Would like to prevent wrinkles from appearing on the face
  • Would like to achieve or maintain a youthful appearance

What are the benefits of Botox®?

The groundbreaking science behind the most widely used neuromodulator injectable can help minimize the appearance of:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Moderate-to-severe forehead lines and creases
  • Frown lines between your brows

Your treatment of Botox in Cedar Park, Round Rock, and other neighboring cities can also benefit you by smoothing the smile lines around your mouth or softening the look of a bulky, square, or overdeveloped jawline. Our customized treatments are tailored to you and your desired outcome, so you can expect results that reflect your aesthetic vision.

The science behind Botox®

Botox®, Xeomin®, and Dysport are botulinum-based injectable treatments. These neurotoxins block the release of chemicals that lead to muscle contractions and frequent twitching. As a result, targeted muscles relax, while the surrounding muscles continue to function normally. This effect allows your skin to smooth out where wrinkles and grooves form, but you can still make your natural expressions when injected by the professionals at B + A Medical Aesthetics.

How long does Botox® last?

Your results from Botox® in Cedar Park should be long-lasting and can be prolonged through maintenance treatments. The team at B + A Medical Aesthetics usually finds that optimal Botox® results last for about four to six months, depending on how long it takes your body to metabolize the injectable. However, you can experience even longer-lasting benefits if you are treating finer lines and wrinkles.

What other wrinkle reduction options do I have?

Neuromodulators like Botox work to reduce the movement of certain muscles that cause dynamic facial wrinkles. In addition, dermal fillers like Restylane and Juvederm are usually used in combination with Botox in Austin, which helps to improve facial volume and smooth out the skin’s surface.

Wrinkles caused by facial movements (dynamic wrinkles) are best treated with neuromodulators, while static wrinkles are best treated with dermal fillers. Your options include:

  • Botox
  • Xeomin
  • Dysport

Dermal Fillers

  • Restylane
  • Juvederm

What is the difference between Botox®, Xeomin®, and Dysport?

The difference is that Xeomin® does not contain the added proteins in Botox®. Some people get better results with Xeomin® when Botox® stops producing the smoothing effect. This is the result of developing antibodies against the proteins in Botox®. Both products are excellent and have a similar effect. Which one is right for you? Talk to us about what you hope to achieve.

Dysport is also a botulinum toxin that is injected similar to Botox and Xeomin.  The unit dosage amounts are slightly different.

Like Botox, Xeomin is an FDA-approved anti-wrinkle injectable. Its composition varies in that it does not contain some of the proteins that Botox has, but it does utilize the same active ingredient found in Botox. Xeomin improves the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows and can be used in a variety of off-label applications.

Dysport is another effective treatment option for moderate to severe frown lines. It too capitalizes on the power of the botulinum toxin. Its results typically appear within 2-3 days and may last up to 5 months, with 97% of users feeling their results look natural, and 95% feeling more confident, attractive, and happy after their Dysport treatment.

Botox® Post-Procedure Instructions

  • Remain in an upright position for 4 hours.
  • No massaging of the treated area for 24 hours. Washing your face or applying make-up is fine.
  • Please avoid a Clarisonic facial cleanser, have a facial, put your face in a massage cradle, or be face down for 24 hours after the treatment.
  • Exercise the treated area (wrinkle the forehead, smile, frown, etc.) every so often for 1-3 hours after treatment. This will help with the uptake of the Botox.
  • Do no exercise (running, aerobics, weight-lifting, etc.) for 24 hours.
  • Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, or fish oil for 24 hours after the treatment.
  • You can take Tylenol for any headaches which is the most common side effect after neuromodulator treatment.
  • Mild bruising can be seen. You may also have pinprick bleeding at the injection sites. If bruising appears you can apply ice to the area for 15 minutes every hour to decrease bruising.
  • Allow 2 weeks for treatment to take full effect. You may still see lines in at rest lines and may need repeated treatment in these areas for improvement. Neuromodulator only treats lines produced from active movement.
  • Follow up in 3 weeks to evaluate areas treated.
  • Consider retreating the area in 3-6 months or once you note movement in the treated area.
  • Please call the office if you have a severe headache, fever, weakness, or drooping of your eyelids.

How much does Botox in Cedar Park cost?

Botox is priced per unit, with a different number of total units required depending on the area you are having treated. For instance, treating frown lines might require 20 to 30 units, while forehead lines might require 15 to 25. Thus, the cost varies depending on the area being treated.

At what age can I start getting Botox?

Botox is approved for patients 18 years old and older. “Preventative Botox” is usually started in one’s mid-20s and more intensive treatments are often started in one’s early to mid-30s. If you find yourself wondering if Botox might help you clear up those unwanted dynamic lines and wrinkles, you’re likely at the right age to give it a chance.

Is Botox painful?

Botox treatments are virtually painless when done with a topical anesthetic. The level of discomfort will vary depending on the area being treated but most patients find it very tolerable and we can do things prior to the actual injections to help reduce any discomfort even further for you.

Are neuromodulators different from dermal fillers?

Neuromodulators and dermal fillers are both injectable treatments, but they achieve different results. Botox relaxes contracted muscles to smooth away wrinkles and provide a more youthful appearance. Dermal fillers can also greatly reduce wrinkles, but they achieve this result by providing volume to sagging in order to plump the skin, which smooths the wrinkles away. Dermal fillers can also contour the facial features.

Is there needed downtime after Botox?

One of the appealing benefits of Botox is that there is no downtime needed after a treatment. Once the Botox injections are complete, you can get right back to work or your usual activities.

Can you be pregnant and get Botox?

Some women do have Botox treatments during their pregnancy, as the procedure is generally considered very safe. However, because there is no conclusive answer to whether it is completely safe during pregnancy, we do not advise this.

Can Botox treat migraines?

Botox can be used to treat migraines by having Botox injections around the head and neck once every three months. The Botox relaxes the muscles that cause tension headaches or migraines, which results in a greatly reduced occurrence of migraines.
